South Windsor’s Brett Burnham went 2 for 3 and drove in the Silkies other two runs in the top of the first. Eastern picked up a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first off starter Eric Sutton (5 innings, 4 hits 0 earned runs) then he, Jonah Bayliss (4 1/3, no hits, no runs) and Mascaro shut out the Tides over the next 10 innings.

A year ago, Manchester had two chances to pick up its first victory of the season when they traveled to Concord for a double header.

The Quarry Dogs took both games and the Silkworms went home 0-6.

In the first seven-inning game, the teams went to the bottom of the seventh tied at one. Zach Jackson, who was making his first start of the summer after winning 10 times at Louisville in the spring, allowed a pair of singles, and gave way to James Russell with two outs. Russell gave up an RBI single to center and Concord had a 2-1 victory.

In the nightcap, Eric Cunningham spread three hits over four innings, but gave up two unearned runs and one earned run as the Worms fell 4-1. Manchester’s lone run came on a Brent Stephens sacrifice fly.
