  July 19, 2007

An off-night for 14-17 Silkworms

July 19, 2006

Manchester beat Pittsfield 10-2 at Wahconmah Park and improved to 15-16 on the year. Wilson Matos continued to haunt his former team with a homer, two rbi’s and three runs scored.

Mike Gazzola struck out six over six innings for the win.

July 19, 2005

Torrington twisted on on the Silkworms in a 15-4 rout at Northwest Park.

Andy Parrino had three hits and Keith Conners drove in three runs.

July 19th, 2004

The host Newport Gulls split a doubleheader with the Silkworms.  In Game One, Manchester struck first and took a 2-0 lead.  Newport scored five unanswered runs, and the seven-inning game ended at 5-2.

Mike Mooney waxed Gull hitters in Game Two.  Mike struck out four and only walked one as he threw the Silkies’ first complete game shutout of the season.  Manchester won the seven-inning game 4-0.  Tim Binkoski had three hits, a walk and an RBI to lead the Worms; Greg Smith also added two hits and an RBI.  Manchester fans were no strangers to Binkoski’s hitting prowess.  He led the Silkworms with a .311 average in 2004.

July 19th, 2003

Northwest Park was the host for a

thirteen inning marathon tonight.  The Riverpoint Royals knocked off Manchester 3-2, as the Silkworms fell to 12-19.  Chris Garrick could not have pitched any better, as he went 8 2/3 innings, struck out fifteen and allowed only one run.  The 15 strikeouts in one game set a Silkworms record.

However, Manchester bats were shutout after the second inning, and  the Worms managed only six hits over the last eleven innings.  One of those hits belonged to Ben Copeland, who broke the franchise record for hits in a season with his 31st of the year.

July 19, 2002

The scheduled game against Middletown was rained out – the teams’ fourth of the year, all on Friday nights - when a heavy rain during early batting practice left Northwest Park un-playable.

July 19, 2001

Jesse Santos made quick work of the Silkworms with a complete game shutout as Lowell beat Manchester 4-0 in just 1:57 at Northwest Park. Santos gave up just five hits and one walk while fanning eight.

Dan Weinkauf, who would become Winona State University’s all-time win leader in the spring of ’02, also threw a complete game.  The right- hander, who played two years in Manchester, walked seven while yielding four earned runs on just four hits. He also struck out five as he dropped to 0-3.
